Job Objective

One of AMREF’s key goals is to effectively utilise e-communications in both an external and internal capacity, capitalising on new technologies and developments to help AMREF achieve its goals.  We are looking to recruit an experienced and proactive E-communications Officer to enhance this. The E-communications Officer will manage e-communications and create a positive image that promotes the objectives and achievements of AMREF. In addition, the postholder will have a key role in reviewing AMREF’s online presence and enhancing the design and content elements of the AMREF website and other e-communications tools.

Management Responsibility

  • Responsible for accurate, up-to-date and useful content on the AMREF websites
  • Responsible for development of all improvements to the e-communication tools
  • Responsible for delivering on project activities

Description of Duties

  • Consistent updating and maintenance of AMREF’s e-communication tools - the website, intranet, newsletters including gathering and writing of  required content
  • Assist in devising and implementing an annual e-communications plan for AMREF
  • Assist in developing and implementing new e-communications tools
  • Ensure AMREF’s  e-presence is up to date and aligned to emerging digital technologies
  • Drive traffic to the AMREF website using a variety of e-marketing techniques while ensuring that all content is attractive, engaging and in line with AMREF’s brand guidelines
  • Develop, manage and actively contribute to AMREF’s online communities-blogs, Facebook, Twitter etc
  • Measure, analyse, improve and report on the usability and other statistics on the AMREF website and its social media accounts
  • Assist in the provision of support and training to AMREF e-communication tool users.
  • Assist in the administration of security and hosting of all e-communication tools to ensure maximum “up-time”


Accountability

  • Supervision: Work independently with authority from the Communications Director
  • Decision Making: Makes decisions with regards to work responsibilities and is accountable for them
  • Responsibility over data or information: has access to important and highly confidential Communications information in AMREF HQ Directorate
  • Responsibility over assets: Computer, printer, office furniture. Custodian of various communication and fundraising reports
  • Responsibility over staff:  E-communications interns


Job Specifications

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
 
PROFESSIONAL/QUALIFICATIONS

Degree in Communications with at least 3 years experience in the field of web development and web management. A diploma in web development is an added advantage.

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

  • Website development and  maintenance
  • Experience in writing for the Web
  • Strong awareness and experience of e-communications and social media platforms
  • Experience in developing, optimising and incorporating multimedia content (such as videos, webcasts, and blogs) into websites

LENGTH OF EXPERIENCE 

3+ years in similar or related field/ environment

KEY SKILLS 

  • Use of internet graphic design tools
  • Web development and programming tools
  • Creative with a flare for communication and design
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including a good command of English
  • Able to manage multiple projects
